The main goal of this study is to monitor the function of insulin-producing cells over the years. Other goals include tracking pain scores and quality of life.

• Age 16 years or older
• Planned total pancreatectomy with islet graft

The removal of the pancreas (total pancreatectomy) followed by the re-transplantation of the islets of Langerhans (autotransplantation) often aims to reduce pain and improve the patient’s quality of life. Often, the transplanted islets function less effectively than before the surgery. We want to investigate whether their function remains the same in the long term. Additionally, we are interested in the experience of pain before and after the surgery. We believe that the results of this study will enable us to make better decisions later on regarding when surgery will be most beneficial.

Participation in the study consists of completing questionnaires, using a glucose sensor, and a sensitivity assessment.
