Marten Engelse
Marten A. Engelse is an Associate Professor at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and head of the Laboratory for Regenerative Medicine and Pancreatic Islet Transplantation. His expertise lies in isolating and transplanting insulin-producing islets — cells from the pancreas — for the treatment of diseases such as diabetes. He combines fundamental research with translation into clinical applications. Engelse is also an associate investigator at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW. In addition, he was part of the team that developed PRISM — a machine designed to fully automate and standardize the isolation of pancreatic islets from donor organs.
