Eelco de Koning is Professor of Diabetology and an internist-endocrinologist at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). After a fellowship in Boston, he further developed his expertise in islet transplantation and β-cell therapy. In Leiden, his work focuses on the treatment of type 1 diabetes, with particular attention to islet transplantation and the national islet transplantation program. His research centers on islet biology, stem cells, and transplantation, aiming to enable a functional cure for diabetes. Starting in 2025, he will lead Cure One to further accelerate these innovations.
